About
Greater Newburyport Community Media Hub, Inc. or NCM Hub, is a 501(c)3 non-profit established to provide access to the tools needed to produce community media and avenues of distribution to share information. NCM Hub is the designated provider of the Newburyport’s Public, Education, and Government (PEG) cable channels serving Newburyport, Massachusetts.
NCM Hub cablecasts local programming on local Comcast cable channels created by PortMedia, the video production arm of the hub. Newburyport has three Comcast channels – Channel 8 Voice of the People (P-Public: Community programming) and Channel 9 Clipper Cities & Schools (G-Government: Government and Schools programming) and a third channel, Channel 22 The Waterside Channel (E-Education: Local Arts, Culture, History, and Maritime programming). Streaming of all cable programming is available on our website on the SHARE page.
NCM Hub holds the FCC license for WJOP-LP 96.3FM Newburyport “Joppa Radio”, a low power community radio station serving the greater Newburyport area with a 3-10 mile radius, also streaming on the website. In addition to our music format (classical, jazz, roots, local artists), we have several talk shows that simulcast on both WJOP and the local channels. Most of the video productions can be found on PortMedia YouTube, podcasts on WJOP SoundCloud.
NCM Hub’s citizen journalism project, the Packet Post, currently shares local press releases and other information. Newburyport Athenaeum is the members’ resource library consisting of digital and physical media resources including our production training and media workshops.
Sun Gear Connect is the Hub’s quarterly (more or less) newsletter which you can subscribe to on the homepage.
