Cantemus Great American Songbook Concert with Jason Iannuzzi & Miranda Russell
This week I’m welcoming Jason Iannuzzi, Artistic Director of Cantemus Chamber Chorus, and well known North Shore jazz-pop-folk vocalist Miranda Russell to talk about Cantemus’ upcoming concert on May 2nd and 3rd, “A Salute to the Great American Songbook,” which will feature Russell and her combo as guest artists.
Jason will discuss how he came up with the idea to celebrate this year’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence by programming American Songbook standards ranging from George Gershwin and Irving Berlin to Judy Collins.
Miranda, who is known for performing works from the Songbook, will discuss what makes these songs enduring standards. She and Jason will also talk about new arrangements of Songbook standards that have been crafted specially for Cantemus and Russell to perform together.
The concerts will be held on Saturday, May 2nd at 7:30 PM at Manchester-Essex High School in Manchester-by-the-Sea and on Sunday, May 3rd at 4:00 pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newburyport. For more information visit www.cantemus.org and www.mirandarussell.com.
