2026 Yard Waste Facility Opening Day
Spring is Officially Here

The city’s yard waste facility, located at 23B Colby Farm Lane, will be opening on Tuesday, April 7 for the season. Weekly hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 7:30 AM to 2.30 PM.

To order a resident sticker, please go to the “Make a Payment” button on the home page of the city’s web site, then on the “Online Payments Center” and find yard waste sticker. Stickers will be mailed within three to five business days. You can print a receipt or copy the online confirmation number to use as proof of purchase until the sticker arrives.

Landscapers with three or more properties will need a landscaper permit to use the facility. This annual permit, good from April through December 2026, can be purchased at Newburyport City Hall for $250. Please call 978-499-0413 if you have questions or concerns.

Curbside Leaf Pick Up

Curbside leaf pickup occurs on two Saturdays in the spring: Saturday, April 25, and Saturday, May 9. Bags with materials other than leaves will be left behind. Place leaves in paper leaf bags (fold bag over at the top) or leaves may also be placed in labeled barrels and put them out on the curb by 7 AM.

Recycling Center

The Recycling Center is open the first Saturday of each month from 8 AM to 12 PM at 23A Colby Farm. There are also additional hours of Monday and Thursdays from 12.15-2.15 pm, weather permitting. No chemicals or paint will be accepted.

Fluorescent

LED bulbs

Metal items

Bulk Plastics (resin lawn chairs, vinyl siding, toys, etc.)

Organics Composting

The city is also continuing to sponsor startup kits for residents interested in curbside organics pick up. You can sign up for this self-subscription program at blackearthcompost.com. You can also purchase a backyard composter at the yard waste facility for $35.
