The Salvation Army Emergency Overnight Shelter Open Tonight (Monday, January 19, 2026)
The Emergency Overnight Shelter will be open tonight to serve individuals from the greater Newburyport and Amesbury area only. This includes Newburyport, Amesbury, Salisbury, Newbury, West Newbury, Rowley, and Byfield.
Guest Hours: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
Location: The Salvation Army, 40 Water Street, Newburyport MA (* Fair Street entrance)
Referral and Bed Reservations
This is a referral-based shelter. If you have someone who needs a bed tonight, please reply to this email with their full name and date of birth so we can register them for the evening.
Requirements for Guests
• Valid ID required. If the individual does not have an ID, an agency may provide a letter on official letterhead verifying identity.
• Sobriety is required. A breathalyzer test will be administered before entry.
• Only service animals may enter the shelter. Pet accommodations are available offsite. Pets will be safely housed overnight and returned to their owners in the morning.
