YWCA’s Annual MLK, Jr. Event with Kate Slater, and Ilene Harnch-Grady
This week I had the opportunity to meet Kate Slater, Ph.D., new Executive Director of the YWCA of Greater Newburyport, and Ilene Harnch-Grady, Health and Fitness Director. They talked about the upcoming annual MLK, Jr. Commemoration and Day of Service coming up on January 19th at 9:30 AM at Newburyport City Hall. They discussed how they selected this year’s speaker, the activist, scholar, and author Dr. Angel Jones, and what she will cover in a talk titled, “Standing Strong: Our Beloved Community.”
Kate and Ilene also brought us up to date on the YWCA’s impressive and impactful past, present, and future missions of advocacy for peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all; affordable housing; racial justice; and health and wellness, among others.
