The City of Newburyport’s 2026 Inauguration

Recently elected officials, including Mayor Reardon, members of the School Committee and City Council were sworn in at Monday’s 2026 Inauguration ceremony. There were performances by the NHS Chorus, Orchestra and Band, State Auditor Diana DiZoglio and members of the Suffolk University Choir, Danny Harrington and NHS sophomore Nora Baker, who sang the National Anthem. Charlie Cullen, the former President of Provident Bank and Newburyport native, was the Master of Ceremonies. In attendance were former Newburyport Mayors Donna Holaday, Chris Sullivan, John Moak, Lisa Mead and Mary Anne Clancy, State Senator and Majority Leader, Bruce Tarr, State Auditor Diana DiZolglio, State Representative Dawne Shand, former Essex County Sheriff Frank Cousins and Amesbury’s Mayor Kassandra Gove. City Department Heads, employees, including Newburyport Fire and Police, were also present in abundance. Mayor Reardon was escorted in by Councilor Heather Shand and School Committee member Juliet Walker. Coincidentally, during the meeting, both women were voted in as Council President (Shand) and School Committee Vice Chair (Walker) respectively. This was a historic election in that the City Council, for the first time ever, has a majority of women serving!
