Curbside Christmas Tree Pick-Up
Throughout the month of January, G. Mello will be picking up bare Christmas trees by the curb. They will start pick-ups before their regularly scheduled trash pick-up early in the morning, so please be sure to leave our your trees on the curb this month to be picked up.

If your tree has not been picked up by late January, please call us at (978) 499-0413.

Bring Wired Wreaths to Yard Waste Facility
Residents are asked to bring any wired wreaths that are no longer wanted to the Yard Waste Facility and leave them at the gate. Yard waste cannot be thrown in the trash.

The Yard Waste Facility itself will open for the season at the beginning of April this year. Please be sure to purchase your yard waste sticker online—we will send out a reminder when they become available for purchase.

Colby Farm Lane Recycling Center
The Recycling Center will be open this Saturday, 1/10, from 8 AM to 12 PM (noon). Typical weekday hours of operation are Mondays and Thursdays from 12:15 PM to 2:15 PM (weather permitting).

A list of items that can be taken to the Recycling Center and their fees for 2026 includes, but is not limited to:

AC window unit: $10
Dehumidifier: $10
Electronics (misc.): 0$ – $5, varies by size (cell phones and other small items are free)
Grill: $5 – $10 (note: grills will NOT be picked up by the curb and MUST be recycled)
Lawn mower: $5
Printer: $5 for impact or inkjet, $10 for laser
Refrigerator: $15 for full size, $5 – $10 for dorm-size
Vacuum cleaner: $3
In contrast, the following items are free of charge:

Electrical cords
Keyboards and mice
Laptops
Fluorescent bulbs
LED bulbs
Antifreeze
Motor oil
Cooking oil
Many plastic items
Metal items (if free or mostly free of fabric/vinyl)

Black Earth Compost Options for Newburyport Residents
Newburyport provides residents with several different composting options for reducing waste. These options include signing up with Black Earth Compost for curbside compost pick-up by going to blackearthcompost.com and entering your address or just “Newburyport” in the search bar on the website. If this is your first time composting, you will receive a free starter kit of your choosing (more information on the Black Earth Compost website).

Residents may also purchase back yard composters or dispose of their food waste/other compostable material in compost bins located throughout Newburyport.

These locations are as follows:

115 Water Street (near parking lot island)
Corner of Rail Trail and Washington Street
Yard Waste Facility gate—23B Colby Farm Lane
Senior Community Center
Please be advised that dog waste and plastics are NOT permitted in the compost bins.

Curbside Mattress Pick-Up Dates & Info
The City of Newburyport provides a curbside mattress pick-up for residents. The fee to dispose of a mattress or box spring is $30. For instance, you would need to pay $60 if you wanted to get rid of a mattress AND a box spring. Disposing of box springs for queen or king beds that have two box springs would cost $30 for each. If you would like to sign up for this service, please call the department at (978) 499-0413.

The next mattress pick-up date is January 27th (1/27). Should you sign up for mattress pick-up, please be advised to put your mattress(es) and/or box spring(s) out by the curb before 8 AM the day of pick-up.
