Protecting Affordable Care Act Subsidies
This week, the government is finally back open. This is good news for families, workers, and communities who had to deal with uncertainty and stress while the shutdown was occurring. But reopening the government doesn’t mean our job is done. Far from it. While Congress moved forward on funding and passed a CR, it left out something enormously important: extending the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits that millions of Americans rely on to afford their health insurance.
Without action, nearly 22 million people nationwide will see their premiums rise in 2026. Many have already seen those premiums rise. Here in the 6th district alone, more than 28,000 residents depend on these subsidies to keep coverage affordable and within reach.
That’s why I’ve joined Democrats in taking the next step to continue this fight and work to bring back these subsidies. I have signed onto a new discharge petition to force a vote on extending these ACA subsidies for another three years.
If House Republicans won’t act, we will.
The fight to lower healthcare costs doesn’t end when the lights come back on in Congress. Families are still counting on us to protect their access to affordable healthcare, and I’m going to keep pushing until these vital savings are locked back in.
Massachusetts families deserve stability, affordability, and a Congress that puts their wellbeing first. I’ll keep working every day to deliver that.
