NEVER SETTLE FOR LESS
Author and veterinarian Dr. Marjorie McMillan will visit to talk about her recently published book, NEVER SETTLE FOR LESS, which tells the story of her landmark gender discrimination lawsuit that helped shape Massachusetts employment law.
Serving as department head of radiology at the MSPCA’s Angell Animal Medical Center prior to her lawsuit, Marge is currently the owner of Windhover Veterinary Center and Sterling Impression Animal Rehabilitation Center of New England in Walpole, MA.
I will talk with Marge about how she discovered she was being paid significantly less than male department heads, how she was abruptly fired and escorted from the building when she asked for equal pay, and her subsequent decision to bring suit.
Marge will talk about what she calls the “harrowing world of civil litigation,” including its emotional toll and strategic and moral complexity. Central to her ability to endure and ultimately triumph in court was the deep connection she had with her “Zen master” Labrador retriever, Sterling.
During a time when challenges to women’s rights seem resurgent, Marge will explain how her book provides a “roadmap for women pursuing justice and equality in hostile professional landscapes.”
