Newburyport Celebrates Launch of Port Bikeshare Program

The City of Newburyport, in partnership with Newburyport Livable Streets and the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, invites the public to a ceremonial “First Ride” for the new Port Bikeshare program. The ceremonial first rides will be on Wednesday, November 12 at 3pm at the Market Landing Park East bike station.

The Port Bikeshare pilot program brings easy-to-rent bicycles to convenient locations along the city’s rail trail network. The five bikeshare stations are along the rail trail near the MBTA commuter rail station, at Washington Street, in Market Landing Park, next to the American Yacht Club, and off High Street at March’s Hill.

The system includes 23 pedal bicycles with three gears, a basket, front light, bell, and an easy-to-use wheel lock. Additionally, the bikeshare includes two recumbent trikes for those who cannot use a traditional bicycle, purchased by the Newburyport Commission on Disabilities.

In order to use the bikeshare, riders download the Movatic app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. The Movatic app allows users to see where the bikes are located and how many are available at each station. After a bike is rented it can be returned at any Port Bikeshare station to end the rental session.

You can learn more about the bikeshare program by visiting:

Rates are set at $3 for each half hour. To encourage riders to try out the system, Port Bikeshare is offering a $5 coupon off rentals, good for any day through the end of November — enter the code RIDE5OFF in the app. So please try out a Port Bikeshare bike! Although the program is starting late in the cycling season this year, it will return in the spring of 2026.
