The City of Newburyport is Excited to Announce the Completion of Paving on State Street

Newburyport, MA – The City of Newburyport is excited to announce the completion of paving on State Street, Garden Street, and Otis Place, carried out by the City’s contractor, D&R Paving, in coordination with the Department of Public Services (DPS).

“I want to thank the Department of Public Services, Police Department, and our contractors for working through the night to get this done. State Street is at the heart of downtown and this work will enhance safety, accessibility, and the overall quality of our downtown area,” said Mayor Sean Reardon.

The Department of Public Services completed paving and repairs to 17 streets across the City this construction season. They will continue to work on sidewalks the following weeks. The completion of State Street concludes the 2025 paving schedule.

Looking ahead, crosswalk painting on State Street is scheduled for tomorrow evening, ensuring they are in place just in time for Downtown Trick-or-Treat this Friday.

“We’re excited to have this important work wrapped up in time for one of downtown’s most beloved community events,” said Mayor Sean Reardon. “The DPS team has worked tirelessly for months to execute our streets and sidewalks plan. I especially want to thank Acting DPS Director Jon Carey, Acting Deputy Director Jen Sullivan, and General Foreman Ron Keefe for their leadership and coordination.”

The City extends its sincere thanks to residents, visitors, and local businesses for their patience and cooperation during this year’s construction season, which has been essential to improving Newburyport’s roads and infrastructure.
