UPDATE: 9/22/25: The milling of State Street, Garden Street and Otis Place will begin on Friday, September 26 and will continue on Monday, September 29 due to a change in the contractor’s schedule.

City of Newburyport – State Street Repaving Notice
The City of Newburyport Department of Public Services (DPS) is preparing for the repaving of State Street. While we are committed to providing advance notice to residents and businesses, please be aware that contractor schedules and weather conditions may cause unexpected changes that are beyond our control.
Milling work on State Street, Garden Street, and Otis Place is scheduled to begin the week of September 22. At this time, we anticipate milling will take place on September 25 and 26, though these dates remain tentative and subject to change. This work will take place during the day and will impact parking on the affected streets as we prepare the roadway for paving.
Once milling is complete, our contractor will begin adjusting castings, including manhole covers, water shutoffs, and drainage structures. This work will take place over the following weeks. After these adjustments are made, paving of the roadways will begin.
To minimize disruption to residents and businesses and address public safety concerns, paving will be completed during overnight hours. As dates are finalized with our contractor, we will post updates to keep the community informed.
We recognize that this work may cause some inconvenience, and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete this important project to improve safety and infrastructure of our city.
