City of Newburyport Announces New Water Treatment Plant Operations Superintendent – Peter King

Newburyport, MA — The City of Newburyport is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter King as the new Water Treatment Plant Operations Superintendent. With a proven track record in municipal water management and a commitment to public service, Peter will continue to lead the Water Treatment Facility and delivery of safe drinking water to residents and businesses.

As Water Superintendent, King will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Water Division, manage regulatory compliance, lead long-term planning efforts, and ensure reliable service for Newburyport’s residents. “Peter has been a vital part of our Water Treatment team since 2015, and I’m confident he will thrive as Superintendent. His extensive experience with our treatment facilities, distribution systems, and improvement projects makes him well-equipped to continue ensuring the safety of our water, said Mayor Sean Reardon.

“I’m honored to step into the role of Water Treatment Operations Superintendent, bringing over 19 years of technical expertise in the field. Our team remains steadfast in its mission to provide high-quality drinking water to the community — a responsibility we approach with unwavering dedication and care. I look forward to working closely with my colleagues, the mayor, and City staff to uphold the founding 1908 legislative mandate of the Newburyport Water Works. Together, we will continue to safeguard the integrity of our water system and ensure its resilience for generations to come,” said Peter King.

“Peter brings a wealth of operational and field knowledge coupled with 10 years of intimate institutional knowledge of the Newburyport Water System. His detail-oriented approach and strong hands on background in water treatment will be an asset as he moves the Treatment team forward in the years ahead,” said Interim Director of Public Services Jon Carey.

The City extends its thanks to outgoing Superintendent Thomas Cusick, who has transitioned to a new role in Salisbury, for his service and contributions to the department and community.
