Please join us at the Newburyport Public Library during July for the following programs!

Tuesday, July 8th at 6pm: No Churn Homemade Ice Cream and Frozen Desserts (VIRTUAL).
Learn to make delicious no-churn ice creams, sorbets, and more that don’t require use of an ice cream maker. Virtual registration required.

Monday, July 14th at 6pm: Maker Monday: Jellyfish Windchime (IN PERSON). With a base in the form of a Japanese wind bell, this art piece will add coastal charm and graceful tones to your porch or windows.
Registration required.

Friday, July 18th at 10am: Artificial Stupelligence: The Hilarious Truth About AI (VIRTUAL).
Join author Lynn Raebsamen to chat about her book “Artificial Stupelligence: The Hilarious Truth About AI”, the laugh-out-loud guide to the brilliance – and blunders – of AI.
Virtual registration required.

Monday, July 21st at 5:30pm: Chess Social (IN PERSON). Enjoy playing and learning about chess with four provided game boards and books from our collection, as well as some warm drinks and chess themed cookies. No registration required.

Monday, July 21st at 7pm: “The Wisdom of Morrie” with Author and son of Morrie, Rob Schwartz (VIRTUAL).
For 30 years, Morrie Schwartz’s wisdom has resonated with people around the world largely due to the beloved, best-selling memoir, Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. Now we have the opportunity to speak with Morrie’s son, Rob Schwartz, about the book
“The Wisdom of Morrie”. Virtual registration required.

Thursday, July 24th at 7pm: Sacred Self-Care: Rest, Reclaim, and Radiate (IN PERSON).
Through a grounding Kundalini-inspired movement practice, you’ll be invited to release stress, return to your center, and reclaim the parts of yourself that may have been quieted by the demands of daily life. No registration required.

Wednesday, July 30th at 2pm: V is for Venom: Agatha Christie’s Chemicals of Death (VIRTUAL).
Dr. Kathryn Harkup, writer, science communicator and vampirologist, will be with us discussing her book “V is for Venom: Agatha Christie’s Chemicals of Death”. Virtual registration required.

Thursday, July 31st at 7pm: Pop Up Art School will show you how to mix colors like a pro, plus tips and tricks for creating colorful flowers and leaves, and all from your own home! Virtual registration required.

Ongoing Discussion Groups:

Wednesday, July 2nd at 2pm: Next Chapter Book Group (IN PERSON at the Senior Center).
The Next Chapter Book Group invites you to join our monthly book discussion on the first Wednesday of the month. We will be meeting at the Senior Community Center. This month’s title is
“We Solve Murders” by Richard Osman. No registration required.

Thursday, July 3rd at 4pm: Case Closed Book Group (VIRTUAL). The Case Closed Book Group meets virtually the 1st Thursday at 4 PM. We read a variety of mystery, thriller and true crime books; fiction and non-fiction! This month’s title is “Everyone
in My Family Has Killed Someone” by Benjamin Stevenson. Virtual registration required.

Thursday, July 17th at 2pm: Classics Book Group (IN PERSON). Join NPL’s Classics Book Group! This group meets in-person on the third Thursday of every month in the Director’s Room. This month’s title is “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Gabriel
García Márquez. Registration required.

Tuesday, July 22nd at 5pm: Just the Facts: Nonfiction Book Group (VIRTUAL). Join us for NPL’s Just the Facts Book Group! This group selects and discusses nonfiction books. This month we will be discussing
“Valiant Women: The extraordinary American servicewomen who helped win World War II” by Lena Andrews. Virtual registration required.

Once a month: Home Delivery Services! Are you unable to come to the library? Let the library come to you! Any Newburyport who is possession of a library card and meets one of the following conditions is eligible for this program: (1) A disability and/or
health issue which prevents an individual from visiting the Library, (2) Mobility issues which prevent an individual from visiting the Library, (3) Temporary physical limitations (or illness) which prevent an individual from visiting the Library for a minimum

Tuesdays at 8am: Yoga and Mindfulness (VIRTUAL). Improve your physical and mental well-being by joining Registered Yoga Teacher Ree Coleman for yoga and mindfulness practice. Classes will be held online for the rest of the winter. No registration is
necessary. The Zoom link and meeting ID can be found on the Library website’s events calendar.

2nd Wednesday of the month at 5:30 pm: NPL Art Hive (IN PERSON). All skill levels are welcome. Please bring in your own supplies and projects to work on. The Library will also provide coloring pages, color pencils, and origami. Suggested art hive projects
include knitting and crocheting, collaging, small-scale watercolors and/or drawings.

Thursdays (bi-weekly) at 5:15 pm: Spanish Conversation Group (IN PERSON).
All levels are welcome! However, it may be best suited for those who have a basic knowledge of Spanish or above. Please note, this is not a class, but it can be a great way to practice your Spanish conversational skills and connect with others who have an interest
in the language. The group is led by a Spanish-speaking librarian. Registration required.

Mondays & Thursdays from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm: Drop-In Tech Time (IN PERSON).
Bring your simple technology questions for a drop-in session. We can help with the basics for your phones, laptops, tablets, and e-readers, including accessing library resources, adding Libby to a personal device, basic computer navigation, and general internet
instruction. Sessions can last up to 30 minutes and will be run with available staff on a first come, first served basis. Contact info@newburyportpl.org or call us at 978-465-4428 x 2 with questions.

Fridays at 2pm: Summer Movie Matinee (IN PERSON). Titles are posted on the Library website’s events calendar.

Drop-In Social Services Support (IN PERSON). The City’s licensed professional social worker Trish Boateng offers regular drop-in hours at the Library for any Newburyport resident who may need assistance. Get connected with assistance for food, housing,
transportation, health, child care, or other necessities. Meetings are offered on a first-come, first-served basis every Tuesday afternoon at the library, 1:30-2:30 pm.

Council on Aging Outreach Services Drop-In Hours (IN PERSON). Outreach Specialist from the Council on Aging, Ann Freeman, is available at the Library to residents interested in learning more about the outreach services provided by the Council on Aging.
She is available at the library biweekly on Thursdays from 10-11am. Please see the Events calendar for exact dates or call us at 978-465-4428 x2.
