City Marshall Matthew Simons was featured on the show last week to talk about his journey to becoming a police chief, the core values that guide his decision-making as a leader in law enforcement, his priorities for the Police Department over the next 1-3 years, and what role he sees community input playing in shaping policing strategies or policies.
During a time when there is much interest clarifying our rights, especially regarding immigration, Marshall Simons discussed how Newburyport Police approaches immigration enforcement and how their authority is distinct from that of federal law enforcement officers. He highlighted important information contained in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s recently released advisory for immigrant communities titled, “Know Your Rights.”
