Mayor Accepting Applications for the Mayor Andrew Curtis Memorial Fund Special Review Committee

Mayor Sean R. Reardon is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the Mayor Andrew Curtis Memorial Fund Special Review Committee. The Committee was recently formed by the City Council to help review ideas and concepts on how the City of Newburyport can spend the annual gift allocation from the Mayor Andrew Curtis Memorial Fund.

The Special Review Committee will include four residents, from different wards, two city councillors, and one member of the administration. The committee is estimated to meet three to four times a year to solicit public input on proposed spending ideas. Interested applicants can send a letter of interest and resume to Christine Jackson, Executive Assistant to the Mayor, by email at cjackson@newburyportma.gov or mail at Mayor’s Office, City Hall, 60 Pleasant Street, Newburyport, MA 01950. All appointments are voluntary and unpaid positions and require the appointment of the Mayor and approval of the City Council.

Background on the Mayor Andrew Curtis Memorial Fund

In June 2024, the trustees of the Mayor Andrew Curtis Memorial Fund agreed that the City of Newburyport would be a beneficiary of the Fund. The fund is prepared to donate funds annually, approximately $250,000 to the City. Annual appropriations, per the requirements of the Trust, will be distributed to the City for charitable purposes.

On March 10th the Newburyport City Council approved the creation of a Special Review Committee to review ideas on how the City could spend these funds. Recommendations from the Special Review Committee are subject to approval of the Mayor and City Council.
