Mayor Hosted Public Information Sessions for the Adaptive Reuse of the Former Brown School

Mayor Reardon, in conjunction with the City’s Office of Planning and Development hosted a public information session to review proposed plans for adaptive reuse of the former Brown School. The Zeta InSite team selected for this project, led by Zeina Talje, provided an overview of the project and answered questions from the public. The meeting was held on Tuesday, December 17 at 7 pm in the City Hall Auditorium. A recording of the presentation, and a copy of the presentation slides, are available via the posting here.

The purpose of this meeting was to introduce the Development team, review project goals and present their proposal. At this meeting, Zeta presented a new site plan, improved since the initial concept plan, taking into account demolition of the existing gym addition, and a project achieving 100% affordability, with much deeper levels than originally proposed.

Widespread support was heard for the proposed project updates during the concluding public comment period. As explained in the presentation, next steps in the project will require votes by the City Council, anticipated in early 2025. City officials are also mobilizing to advance demolition work for the gym in spring 2025, in advance of later renovations for housing units within the original school building which will be preserved.
