Choral Society Winter Concert “Luminous Night” with Dr. Minji Kim and Penny Lazarus
This week I had the pleasure of talking with Dr. Minji Kim, Newburyport Choral Society Music Director, and Membership Director and Alto Section Leader Penny Lazarus, to discuss their upcoming annual Winter Concert entitled “Luminous Night,” which takes place on Saturday evening, December 14 at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoon, December 15 at 2:30 pm at Rupert A. Nock Middle School, 70 Low St. in Newburyport.
Minji and Penny spoke about the composers and works programmed to mark the 120-member Choral Society’s 90th anniversary, including Ola Gjielo’s “Luminous Night of the Soul,” Norman Dello Joio’s “A Jubilant Song,” Alice Parker’s distinctive arrangements of seven traditional holiday carols, and other works celebrating, as Minji has said, “the whole range of beautiful emotions that people experience during the holidays, such as gratitude, joy, love, and remembrance.”
