This Week on the “Morning Show”
Indigenous People’s Day with Kristine Malpica
Kristine Malpica of Imagine Studios, organizer of Newburyport’s upcoming 4th annual Indigenous People’s Day at Waterfront Park from 10 AM – 5 PM on October 14th, will visit the show this week to talk about the importance of highlighting traditional and contemporary Indigenous cultural arts, knowledge, and diversity, both regionally and nationally.
Kristine will discuss highlights of the free, family friendly outdoor event, including musical performances by the Mi’kmaq Nation group Lonecry Drummers of Prince Edward Island, a flute concert by Nipmuc musician Hawk Henries, and a Mishoon Dugout Canoe presentation, launch, and paddle by Wampanoag Nation speaker and carver Jonathan James Perry.
Other activities Malpica will preview range from a Wampum and Corn Husk Doll Making Workshop, to storytelling, performances by the Wolf Cry Singers, a family art and craft table, an exhibit by sculptor Joseph Gray, and an Artifact Table and Talk by Professor Robert Goodby of the Anthropology Department at Franklin Pierce University.
