Tuesday, February 20th at 12:30 pm: Armchair Travel To Switzerland — Historic
Cities & Alpine Vistas (VIRTUAL). Walk through the medieval, yet modern, lakeside
cities of Zurich and Lucerne, and along the cobbled streets and ancient arcades of the
World Heritage city of Bern. Take the rapid train to Lauterbrunnen Valley with its soaring
rock faces and thundering waterfalls. From there, travel along the Matterhorn Gotthard
Bahn to Zermatt and ride the world’s highest gondola to Klein Matterhorn. Finally, hop
on the Golden Pass Express for a scenic trip along the shores of Lake Geneva. Led by
local authors Alison Simcox and Douglas Heath, both retired from the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency. Virtual registration required.
Tuesday, February 20th at 6 pm: Planning for Medicare (IN-PERSON). Need help
understanding your Medicare health insurance options? Planning for Medicare-
Countdown to 65 is a no-cost seminar that helps you understand your Medicare health
insurance options outside of your employer-sponsored coverage, whether or not you’re
planning to retire.This presentation and discussion is led by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
Topics covered include health insurance information outside of employer sponsored
coverage, such as an explanation of Medicare, the Medicare enrollment timeline,
Medigap and Medicare Advantage plans and programs available to early retirees, and
COBRA. Registration is required.
Thursday, February 22nd at 2 pm: “The Globemakers: The Curious Story of an
Ancient Craft” (VIRTUAL). Who ISN’T fascinated by the ancient craft of Globemaking?
Join Peter Bellerby, founder of Bellerby & Co. Globemakers, in this visual tour through
the history of Globemaking, how it almost became a lost art, and how he is bringing it
back, one beautiful hand painted globe at a time. His book, a full-color photographic
portrait of a fantastic art, “The Globemakers” is an enlightening exploration of globes, or
“earth apples,” as they were first known, and their ability to show us ourselves and our
place in an infinite universe. If you don’t want to run out and buy globes for yourself and
all of your friends after this talk, we’ll be surprised! Virtual registration required.
