Tuesday, August 8th at 7 pm: Newburyport Chamber Music Festival: Family Concert (IN-
PERSON). Come join NPL and the Newburyport Chamber Music for a FREE Concert! The
concert will consist of a Quartet playing short selections from the Newburyport Chamber Music Festival.
Artist Bios:
• French violinist Solenne Païdassi is the First Prize winner of the 2010 Long-Thibaud
Competition. She has been awarded many prizes in France and abroad, including in the
2009 Hannover Competition, the Sion-Valais Competition, and the Gyeongnam
Competition in Korea. She plays a Gian Battista Guadagnini violin of 1784, awarded by
the Zilber-Vatelot Foundation in Paris. She obtained a Künstlerische Ausbildung Diploma
from the Hannover Hochschule für Musik und Theater.
• Praised by The Strad as an “utterly dazzling” artist, with “a marvelous show of superb
technique” and “mesmerizing grace” (New York Classical Review), violinist Danbi Um
captivates audiences with her virtuosity, individual sound, and interpretive sensitivity. Her
teachers have included Shmuel Ashkenasi, Joseph Silverstein, Jaime Laredo, and Hagai
Shaham.Ms. Um is a winner of Astral Artists’ National Auditions. She plays a 1683 “ex-
Petschek” Nicolo Amati violin, on loan from a private collection.
• Recipient of an artist fellowship from the Independence Foundation awarded to a small
number of exceptional artists, violist David Yang has been described as “lithe and
expressive” in the Strad Magazine and called “a conduit for music;” the renaissance man
has forged a career that is a blend of performing, composition, and storytelling, and been
heard in collaboration with members of the Borromeo, Brentano, Miro, Pro Arte, Tokyo,
and Vermeer String Quartets. He has premiered and commissioned dozens of works and
is Artistic Director of the Newburyport Chamber Music Festival.
• Cellist Clancy Newman has enjoyed an extraordinarily wide-ranging career, not only as
a cellist, but also as a composer, producer, writer, teacher, and guest lecturer. Originally
from Albany NY, he received his first significant public recognition at the age of twelve,
when he won a Gold Medal at the Dandenong Youth Festival in Australia, competing
against contestants twice his age. His teachers have included David Gibson, Joel Krosnick
and Harvey Shapiro.
