Storm Surge to host a public event on the Newburyport roadmap to
decarbonization.
Next time you walk around in Newburyport, look up. Have you noticed the increase in solar
arrays in your neighborhood? How about electric cars; are you seeing more of them on the
street and in your neighborhood?
Storm Surge will host a live presentation at 7 pm on Wednesday, June 22 at the
Senior/Community Center titled “The Newburyport Path to Net-Zero by 2050”. The public is
invited to attend. The Greater Newburyport Community Media Hub (NCM Hub) will broadcast
the event on Newburyport channel 9.
On Earth Day 4/22/2022 the Commonwealth of Massachusetts committed to revised
greenhouse gas emission targets. By 2050 Massachusetts must meet net-zero emissions and
a level of emissions that is no more than 85% of the 1990 emissions. The state will announce
revised targets for 2030 by July 1, 2022.
Do you have questions about Newburyport’s path to decarbonization and the plan to meet the
electrification goals? What will these changes mean to you as a resident of Newburyport?
Newburyport Recycling and Energy Manager, Molly Ettenborough and Mike Strauss, Chair of
the Newburyport Energy Advisory Committee (EAC) will speak on green-house gas emissions in
Newburyport, residential electric supply aggregation, city ordinances enacted last year and
future changes. If you have questions about the future electrification of Newburyport homes
and cars, please come and join the discussion.
This event will be held at the Newburyport Senior/Community Center at 331 High St,
Newburyport, MA. Doors will open at 6:30 to allow time for socializing prior to the main event at
7 pm. NCM Hub will broadcast live on Channel 9 and will replay the event on Channel 8.
The first 24 in-person attendees at this event will receive a free book by local author Dyke
Hendrickson titled “Merrimack: The Resilient River”. These books have been generously
donated by Amesbury business owner Dan Healey.

Storm Surge would like to thank the Institution for Savings for financial support for the Speaker
Series, NCM Hub for recording and broadcasting the event, and the City of Newburyport
