Child Find Notice
It is the responsibility of the Newburyport Public Schools to identify any child who is a resident of Newburyport, who may have a disability, regardless of the severity of the disability. It is also the responsibility of Newburyport Public Schools to evaluate those students to determine if they are eligible for special education or related services under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) or 603 CMR 28 (Massachusetts Special Education Regulations).
What is Child Find Screening?
The Newburyport Public Schools provides Child Find screenings throughout the school year at no cost to families. The purpose of this screening is to identify preschool age children birth to five who are at risk for developmental delays and may require special education services.
Does my child need to be screened?
You may want to consider the following questions: Does your child?
- Have a vision or hearing problem?
- Have difficulty speaking or expressing him/herself?
- Do things more slowly or much later than other children the same age?
- Appear excessively active or have other behavioral difficulties?
- Have any other problem which may interfere with learning?
The Newburyport Public Schools District is committed to identifying children before their (3rd) third birthday in order to provide early intervention services for three and four year-olds.
If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s development or you answered yes to any of these questions, you should consider having your child screened please call: Lori Morasse at Francis T. Bresnahan Elementary School for an appointment at (978) 465-4435 ext. 3125 for more information.
