Newburyport radio station WJOP (96.3 FM) is bringing back, “The Morning Show,” beginning Tuesday, March 12th with two news hosts Andy Dear on Tuesdays and Mary Jacobsen on Fridays. The show will run from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. and will be uploaded as a podcast to NCM Hub’s SoundCloud. There will be no simulcasting of this program at this time. Dear’s guest line-up will include Mary Carrier who will be back reporting on the City Council Meeting and Jacobsen’s first guests will be Camille Garro and Rita Parisi, both discussing their participation in Women’s HERStory Month events, hosted by The Actors Studio in Newburyport.
Carrier, previously on “The Morning Show” with host Win Damon, will begin Tuesday, March 11, and will return every other Tuesday with her summary of the City Council meeting.
Garro, who is on the Actors Studio Board of Directors, has coordinated their HERStory events for the past two years. Her play, “Vintage Radio Hour,” will be performed at the Actors Studio, on Friday, March 15 at 8:00 p.m.
Parisi, will perform her one-woman play, “I Am Zelda,” about the life and artistic accomplishments of Zelda Fitzgerald, at the Actors Studio on Saturday, March 16, at 8:00 p.m. and again on Sunday, March 17, at 3:00 p.m.
Women’s HERStory Month, now its 27th year, will continue throughout March, with new venues participating throughout the city, including the Firehouse Theater, The Custom House, Dance Place at the Tannery, and Theater in the Open.
The last 20-minute segment of the Friday show will offer a review of “Books from off the Beaten Path,” hosted by Melinda Everett. Everett discusses books that are what she terms “well-hidden gems.” “These are works that are likely to interest individual readers — especially those with eclectic tastes in subject matter — but which may not have drawn the attention of bestseller lists and book clubs,” she said.
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, Everett will discuss, “Yeats Is Dead!” — a wildly unconventional murder mystery collaboration among 15 Irish authors, including Frank McCourt.
